Join HMS in our mission of bridging the past and future of medicine at the Chawla Auditorium at Saint Francis Hospital on April 27 to hear a lecture by Johns Hopkins Urologist-in-Chief, Dr. Mohamad Allaf on “A Vision for the Future.” Having performed over 2,000 robotic procedures and published over 250 peer-reviewed research papers, Dr. Allaf will bring a new and exciting perspective on the medical industry’s evolution. This event will also honor dearly departed HMS Member and prominent St. Francis Hospital figure Brendan Fox, who sadly passed in August 2022.
Honoring Dr. Brendan Fox
Dr. Fox was a beloved physician at Saint Francis Hospital since 1964 where he served as Chief of Urology and later as President of the Medical Staff. He graduated from Holy Cross followed by Medical School at Tufts, surgery training at Yale, and urology residency at Mass General under Drs. Leadbetter, Chute and Hendren. He assisted Dr. Eugene Sigman in establishing a UConn urologic residency program in Hartford and taught countless residents and medical students during his 35 years in private practice. In 2003, he was elected President of the American Urologic Association and contributed greatly to the growth of this organization. But he is best remembered for his infectious smile and the gracious manner in which he treated all of his patients and the staff at the Saint Francis. He remains one of the most outstanding and truly loved clinicians in the history of the Hospital.
MEET YOUR SPEAKER
Dr. Mohamad Ezzeddine Allaf, is the Urologist-in-Chief and Director of Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Also serving as the Professor of Urology and Oncology at the Department of Urology and the Brady Urological Institute, Dr. Allaf has trained with Dr. Patrick Walsh using his methods of radical prostatectomy for the basis of his anatomic approach. Among many other accomplishments, Dr. Allaf has performed over 2,000 robotic procedures and is among the leaders in kidney cancer surgery. His expertise includes Kidney Cancer, Laparoscopic Kidney Surgery, Prostate Cancer, Robotic Prostatectomy, and Urology. In addition, his research interests include Minimally Invasive surgery, image-guided therapy, nerve preservation after radical prostatectomy, robotic surgery, and small kidney tumors.
