Clara Barton

Honoring a Medical Industry Pioneer

Celebrate Women's History Month and 'Angel of the Battlefield' icon Clara Barton in the latest installment of our Lunchtime Webinar series! Presented by Carolyn Ivanoff, Assistant Principal of Shelton Intermediate School, participants will learn how Clara's efforts revolutionized the medical industry, inspired future generations of physicians, and paved the way for women leaders to achieve success beyond the home.

Who is Clara Barton?

Many know Clara Burton's name as a nurse in the Civil War known as 'The Angel of the Battlefield'. By her death in 1912, her work touched millions of people worldwide and continues to do so. If you've ever received the care of a trained female nurse, received a blood donation, participated in or donated to relief efforts, have utilized your community's ambulance corps, have taken a first aid course, or have a first aid kit in your home, office, car, or boat --- then Clara's work has touched your life.

MEET YOUR SPEAKER: CAROLYN IVANOFF

Carolyn Ivanoff is Assistant Principal at Sheldon Intermediate School in Shelton, Connecticut. When she's not using her twenty years of educational experience in public schools, she serves as a resource for local history initiatives, presenting historical programs for various organizations to bring history beyond the classroom and into the community. She is consistently involved in the Civil War Preservation Trust, which she calls "the finest historical preservation organization in our nation." We're honored to hear her expertise on medical industry pioneer Clara Barton and appreciate her shared passion for bridging the past to the future of medicine.
