The Hartford Medical Society held its Annual Meeting and Fundraiser on September 18th at the Pond House in Elizabeth Park. The main sponsors were YHB Investments, Bank of America, Hartford Health Care and Saint Francis Hospital. There was an extensive Silent Auction which helped raise funds for medical student scholarships and the maintenance of our historical medical instrument and rare book collection at the Watkinson Library at Trinity College. Over 60 attendees enjoyed the speakers: Gretchen Mortenson speaking about her book "These Are The Plunderers", an expose on capital equity firms wringing profits from the acquisition of medical practices and hospitals; and Toni Boucher speaking about her book "The Husky Effect", an accounting of the University of Connecticut's development of entrepreneurs of the future. We heard from four entrepreneurs who founded successful companies with the assistance and guidance from UConn.
