Letter From the President – We’ve Come So Far in the Last Year

At our recent Annual Meeting, we reflected on the power of history, community, education, and involvement contributing to our growth this year.

We have garnered over 100 members, a $10,000 donation to Americares supporting medical aid for Ukraine, celebrated Saint Francis Hospital’s 125-year founding anniversary, and had a great turnout for Dr. Lisa Sanders’ keynote at our Annual Meeting. It is also an exciting time for our library and vast collection of medical artifacts making their return to Hartford with recently moving to the Watkinson Library at Trinity College. Stay tuned for an announcement regarding the opening reception soon.

In addition to our new library move, we are also looking for ways to share our artifacts with the community at large to learn more about medical history. It is an exciting time to be a member or join the society!

This society’s work could not be accomplished without our Trustees’ passion, love, and support for medical history, the key to helping historic organizations preserve our past to help shape our future. Thank you to our Board of Trustees for helping the Hartford Medical Society move from the 1846 version to 2022! As we continue moving forward, we welcome you to offer ideas for future in-person or virtual events.

Whether you’re interested in community outreach, discussing future keynote speakers for events, or writing a blog for our website, we want to hear from you.

We can only go up from here and look forward to learning and growing together. Remember at our Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel talk last spring, he emphasized the importance of collegiality and of sharing our interests and history. We are working on some exciting projects and lectures which we hope to share with you soon.
