New Librarian for the Hartford Medical Society Library
On January 22, 2020, the Hartford Medical Society Library welcomed its newest librarian, Teri Shiel, MLS, MA.
Teri has worked at the UCONN Library, Health Sciences, in a variety of postitions: Head of the Information Desk, Research and Institutional Services Librarian, and the Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences Librarian.
She graduated from Binghamton University in New York with a BA in English Literature, and from the University at Albany with a MLS and a MA in 19th century American history, where she focused on the history of the Civil War.
Professionally, Teri worked at the University of Utah, Westfield State University, and at UConn since 2013. She has received several grants, including a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning grant and an Innovative Pedagogical Initiatives grant. She was chosen for the 2011 class of the American Library Association’s Emerging Leaders program, and have attended two of the Association of College & Research Libraries Information Literacy Immersion programs.
“I love the HMS collection and think it’s a treasure trove of amazing artifacts and texts! I’m so glad that I was asked to step into Jenny’s shoes, and I will do my best to live up to her standards!” said Teri of her new role.
Teri fills the role that Jennifer Miglus served for over ten years at the Hartford Medical Society Library.
